To find balance between work, travel and being a good human.
I’m Liz, a 27 year old marketing strategist and presenter from Sydney, Australia. The name 'Runaway Strategist' came about because I was a 'strategist who wanted to runaway from her job.' In 2015, I found freelance social media work, quit my 9-5 and pursued a digital nomad life.
Travelling to the Philippines, Israel, Hawaii, Colombia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Malaysia it's been the millennial dream. But sometimes, dreams change.
At 22, all I wanted was to be in New York as some hot shot marketer. At 25, all I wanted was to quit my job and travel the world. At 27.... well I'm still trying to figure it out.
Since 2015, I have had many highs and lows. I have lived a semi-nomadic life, given a TEDx talk, fallen in and out of 'love' with holiday boyfriends, made life long friends with strangers, gone broke, had a 'career change' and many more unforgettable experiences.
But I think at the core of who I am, I'm just trying to find the balance of work, travel and being a good human.
I think they are all interconnected: career, travel and personal development. Whilst you don't want to sacrifice one for the other, they contribute to what we would call a 'fulfilling life.'
Luckily, we can learn from each other and our predecessors. Which is why I developed this blog. I wanted a place where I would digest things I was reading, share my own struggles, travels and stories of other millennials trying to 'hack their own lives.'
Life isn't about quitting your job just so you can travel... it's about creating a career and life you don't feel like running away from.
So if you're looking to get the most out of this adventure called life, come join me in figuring it out. Happy reading!
